We made two trips to the summit of Aguille Du Midi - one on the first cable car of the day at 8.10 am in the morning and a second at about 3 pm in the afternoon on the following day.
The air is very thin up there and on the first trip I did feel a bit peculiar. Short of breath, yes, but also off balance. A few glasses of wine would have the same effect on me I guess.
On the second trip I prepared myself by taking big deep breaths on the last stages of the cable car journey and that helped immensely. Except when taking photographs. Instinctively I would hold my breath to aid holding the camera steady, then spend the next 30 seconds regaining my breath !
