Minehead's harbour faces north east and is in the lee of North Hill, so during the shorter days of the year it barely receives any sunlight at all. From late spring to early autumn, however, the sun is not only much higher but also describes a larger arc in it's journey across the sky, so is able to illuminate the harbour early in the morning and, to a lesser extent, in the late afternoon.

A visit just after sunrise is best, and of course it will all look a lot more photogenic if this coincides with high tide. If planning a special visit to take photos, check with the tide predictions beforehand. I have a tide clock in my hall which makes life a lot easier.
