A typical alpine river near Le Buet in the upper reaches of the Chamonix Valley, and yes the water really was that colour.
One glance at the images on this news page will tell you that they were definitely not taken on Exmoor ! Although this website has traditionally featured images from Exmoor National Park it is now branching out and widening its horizons. The Lake District has been on the site for a while now, but images from Norway, Iceland and Slovenia are in the process of being prepared.
But these images are from the area around the Chamonix Valley and the Mont Blanc Massive in the French Alps. I love mountains and my lifelong desire to visit the alps and ascend the 3842m Aguille Du Midi has recently been fulfilled. The weather and lighting wasn't very photogenic so I had to work with what was available to me while I was there.
The image to the left was taken at about 8.30 pm as the last rays of the setting sun cast a pink glow on the highest peaks. Mont Blanc itself is the dome shaped one in the center.
A chance visit to Minehead harbour early one morning saw this stunning sunrise. Transitional events such as this never last long so you need to plan ahead and be ready just in case a colourful sky develops. Having said that, this image was not planned, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Aguille Du Midi is the highest peak that mere mortals like me can ascend to, by cable car of course, but at 3842m above sea level it was high enough to give me a touch of altitude sickness !
