Cheriton and Ilkerton Ridges

Lighting is the key to a successful image, and it's the most difficult thing to get right. Stunning locations are just a matter of research, composition can be learned and practiced, but lighting can't be controlled. You can learn to recognize it and be in the right place at the right time, but there are so many variables that control outdoor lighting that it's just down to chance as to wether it decides to play ball for you.
Here, in my opinion, I got lucky. I love the way the lighting enhances the autumn hues on the ridges, and the long shadows from the trees. And the shadowy areas in the foreground and distant hill draw attention to the sunlit areas. It's the only time I've seen these ridges like this.
